She wrote: “My beautiful, smart, fierce, incredibly talented, and loving sister-in-law, Nicki Aycox Raab, passed away yesterday with my brother, Matt Raab, by her side.

“Nicki and Matt had a wonderful life together in California. She was definitely a fighter and everyone who knew her loved her.”

Her sister-in-law also posted a collection of photos of Aycox, including her with her two sons and husband, and professional actor shots from early in her career.

Aycox had been diagnosed with leukaemia in 2020 and had undergone chemotherapy and stem cell transplants.

Documenting her cancer journey on Instagram, the actress had shared photos and videos of her treatments as well as her enjoying hiking and yoga as she fought the disease.

Her last Instagram post, shared in March, was a short video of her singing the Whitesnake hit Here I Go Again, with the message: “Do not attempt to sing 80’s music after taking high doses of chemo”.

Best known for her role in Supernatural, Aycox played Meg Masters between 2006 and 2008.

The creator of the dark fantasy drama Erik Kripke paid tribute to her on Twitter, writing: “Gutted to hear the great Nicki Aycox, our first Meg Masters, passed away. Too young.

“She was a delight and delivered lines like honey and venom. I marvel at how she made a simple word like ‘lacklustre’ legendary.”

Actor Jim Beaver, who played Bobby Singer in the show, added: “My first Supernatural episode was with Nicki. She was a terrific actress and a delightful colleague. I’m so sad to hear of her death. Sleep well, my friend.”

Born in Hennessey, Oklahoma, Aycox enjoyed singing and playing the piano as a child.

Early TV appearances included 3rd Rock From The Sun, Boy Meets World, Ally McBeal and The X Files, as well as a recurring role in Providence.

Film credits included a psychotic cheerleader in Jeepers Creepers 2 and a woman trying to blackmail Bruce Willis’s wealthy advertising executive in Perfect Stranger.

Other appearances included Law & Order, Dark Angel, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Twilight Zone, LAX, Criminal Minds and CSI: Miami.

She leaves behind her husband Matt Raab and two sons.
